Wendy and Suzie – RESERVED

Wendy and Suzie have been at our rescue centre for over 7 months, since Sept 2025. They have very special needs but deserve a chance at a calm, safe, comfortable home.

Brief history – these two were living alone in a wooded area having been dumped there.  It took 3 weeks and a team of volunteers to finally trap them.  They were matted and terrified – our assumption is that these were 2 breeding bitches whose services were no longer needed.

Wendy, the younger one on the left of the photo is about 5 years old and the braver of the two. Suzie is around 9. We assume they are mother and daughter, they are completely co-dependent, we cannot split them up.

We can’t really touch Suzie.  If we corner her in a confined space she will submit to handling, grooming etc, but she will never ever approach you.  Wendy is better – after a spell of getting to know you she will allow cuddles, belly rubs and loves being picked up for a good hug.

Neither dog will walk on lead in spite of months of practice and encouragement. Their miracle home will need a secure garden and an owner who has little interest in walks or excursions.  They would live happily in someone’s garden with access to a warm, comfortable shed / garage initially, with the hope that they will gain the courage over time to come inside the house to sleep and interact.

Graduating to living within a home will take time and patience.  They are curious so we would advise giving their meals near an open back door where they will eventually poke their nose in and choose to spend time inside. But for starters a cosy shed or garage in a secure space would be absolutely fine – better than they have ever had.

If you would like any more information about Wendy and Suzie please send a message to 086 8500131 and we will call you back to discuss them further.

Bella – RESERVED

Bella is a dinky 9 year old terrier mix who would make a great companion pet in a quieter home.

In terms of a history, we know that up to about 4 months ago she was owned by an older gentleman who could not keep her. Another person took her but Bella didn’t gel with her own dog, so now Bella is here with us.

For her first days here, Bella was a bit wary of the team and volunteers and was unsure about handling.  We have seen such a difference in just a couple of weeks – she is becoming much more relaxed and expressive – looking for attention, climbing up on our laps!

Bella has plenty of pep in her step still.  She loves going on lead and taking walks, she loves chewing on toys or chasing after balls – but not bringing them back! We walk her with dogs here and she shares a kennel with another dog, but Bella will likely do best as a single dog.

An owner who will give her a few days to find her feet in a new home and a bit of space to win her trust, will be rewarded with a fun, happy companion.  A secure garden is a must and ideally not too many leaving hours.

If you would like to apply for Bella, please read the Adoption Process on our website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

Lexie

We are looking for a loving new home for our beautiful collie dog, a 4-year-old neutered female with a rich brown coat. She is incredibly friendly, gentle, and wonderful with families, making her a perfect companion.

She is full of energy and absolutely thrives in an active environment, so she will need plenty of space and regular exercise. At the same time, she has a calm and affectionate side, enjoying quiet moments and companionship.

We are hoping to find a home where she will be well cared for, loved, and given the space and activity she needs to truly flourish.

To apply for Lexie, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire – West Cork Animals

Nell

Unfortunately our little Nell finds herself looking for a new home again.  We had found her a lovely family about 8 months ago, with a male and female companion dog.  The two females never really settled with each other, although Nell and the male companion were absolute besties.  For the sake of their pre-existing female dog, Nell was returned to us.

We were all reminded of how tiny and dinky Nell was upon her return! This little collie mix is so small, the ears are the largest part of her!  She is gentle and loving and playful, with a teeny touch of cheekiness that adds to the overall charm.

Initially found as a stray when she came to us, she is a bit timid initially but is dying to bond with a person and presses into you for affection! The ideal home would be rural and reasonably calm.  She is fine with strangers and people but can be daunted by a lot of running around or noise.

Nell would be fine as an only dog, or with a male companion.  She does not like unknown dogs to rush straight up to her, she prefers polite introductions. She walks gentle onlead and is very reliable off the lead.  Children 12+ for Nell.

If you would like to offer Nell a home, please read the Adoption Process on our website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

Tyson

Tyson is a stunning 6 year old German Shepherd whose owner went away to college leaving Tyson with family who couldn’t care for him.  Now that he is with us, we are determined to find this gentle soul a loving, forever home.

Tyson mixes really well with all of the other dogs we have onsite.  Rehoming him with another dog would not be a problem.  Meeting dogs onlead is also very smooth – no reactivity or rushing over to meet them, he is very steady with open, confident body language.

Tyson walks well onlead – he came from an urban home where he was well-habituated to lead walking.  Meanwhile, he is fab off the lead with solid recall.  We would really like to find him a home where exercise and adventures form part of his day.

With people, Tyson is very measured initially. He will bark at new people, particularly men. He then takes his time to sniff around you and get to know you before he shows you his trusting side.  Like all Shepherds, Tyson is a sensitive lad – to loud noises, to too much action around him, to being approached / grabbed suddenly.  For this reason we would like a calm, reassuring home.

Tyson is a big, tall lad – taller than your average Shepherd.  His gentleness is an asset for such a large boy but do make sure your home can accommodate this large arrival!

Please read our Adoption Process on our website if you are interested in Tyson.  You can apply using the Adoption Questionnaire! So excited to see where this lovely, lovely boy ends up!

Patch

Patch is a classic Jack Russell, he is 6 years old and in great nick having come from a very caring home.  Unfortunately Patch developed a tendency towards controlling behaviours – growling, snapping – when he didn’t get his way. In his home he learned that he could get away with not going out, or staying on the sofa by giving a growl to make his owners back off!

In the weeks since he arrived to the rescue, we have had no issue with him. Handling him; clipping on leads; sending him out with volunteers for walks; walking and sharing a kennel with other dogs – all fine.

So Patch is not for everyone, we know he may try to employ previously-seen controlling behaviours once he settles in a new home.  He needs an experienced, quieter home without people going in and out all the time. He also needs someone prepared to give firm correction if he tries to get away with anything!

Patch is a clever, loving, entertaining lad. He is very trustworthy on and off the lead and he is immaculately clean in his kennel. Yes, he needs an experienced owner, but also a home where he gets plenty of fun, encouragement and comfort.

Because of his history we will not rehome him to a household with young children.

Patch mixes really well with other dogs here.  It could be a bonus having another dog in the home where Patch more easily understands that the world doesn’t revolve around him!

If you are interested in meeting Patch please read the Adoption Process on the website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

Nina – RESERVED

Nina is a gorgeous 18month old hound
Shes the sweetest little girl and gives the best snuggles.
She can be a little timid when meeting people at first, but once she gets to know you shes the most gentle, soft and affectionate little thing!
Nina gets along great with dogs and would really thrive with another dog to play with and snuggle up to at the end of an exciting day.
Shes a really energetic girl, so her new owners will have to be active
Like all hounds, Nina is very much driven by her nose, and is a bit of an escape artist, so a fully secure garden is non negotiable.
Nine doesnt like to be left alone too much, so long leaving hours wouldnt be suitable
Nina can be homed with children over 8

To apply for Nina, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire – West Cork Animals

Frost

Such a fun dog, Frost is a 7 year old male Husky.  When his owner passed away Frost was left in the same outside run for over 2 years until we heard about him. We can’t wait for this lad to have the opportunity of a fun, playful home to make up for those years without exercise or interaction.

Frost is very petite for a male Husky. He LOVES toy play and is so affectionate with people, he is properly entertaining to be around! He has his moments of stubborness and is sometimes inclined to not listen, but that is only because he finds it hilarious to wind up his person! He settles really well in his kennel, no barking or pacing, he is immaculate to care for.

Frost has spent his entire life without the company of other dogs.  At the rescue Frost meets and passes dogs nicely around the block, but when left to offlead with dogs he’s goofy, bouncy and strong. He takes onlead walks really nicely with others and he could be rehomed with another dog but it will need to be a dog who can tolerate this guy’s misguided attempts at play!

Alternatively Frost could be an only dog, he would certainly be a great family pet with children 7+. We will need a home where he isn’t left for long hours and  secure garden or space within the garden is a must. He cannot be rehomed with cats.

Could you be the person who finally gives Frost the life, love and craic he has been missing for so long? To apply for him please read our Adoption Process on the website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

Fiadh

Loving 6-Year-Old Collie Seeking a New Forever Home 🐾

I’m looking to rehome my 6-year-old female Collie due to ongoing aggression and jealousy toward her sister. This has been a very difficult decision, but it is the right one to ensure both dogs can thrive.

She is an intelligent, lively, and energetic girl who loves long walks, chasing a ball, and playing with toys. She thrives on mental stimulation, enjoys learning new things, and responds well to a structured routine.

She is:
• House-trained and used to family life
• Affectionate and bonds strongly with her person
• Eager to please with great potential for further training
• Healthy and up to date on vet care (add details if relevant)

She would do best in a one-dog home, ideally with someone familiar with Collies or high-energy breeds. A home with a secure garden and owners who can give her the exercise, attention, and consistency she loves would be perfect. She has shown aggression only toward her sister, not toward people.

I’m happy to provide her bed, toys, and anything that will help her settle, along with information about her routines and what works well for her. I can also support the transition to ensure she feels safe and understood.

If you feel you could offer her a calm, loving, and dedicated home, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire – West Cork Animals
