Fergal

Attention Spaniel Lovers! Fergal is such a dote of a dog – he’s a 1 year old Springer Spaniel, now neutered and looking for his forever home.

Fergal is terribly timid due to having a not-very-nice start in life.  When he sees you he tends to pancake and crawl around uncertainly on his belly so we are going to need a lovely, encouraging, soft home for this lad.  Don’t be too concerned though, he loves gentle handling and cuddles and will nuzzle right into you. We are in no doubt that his confidence is going to develop beautifully in a fun, loving home.

Fergal probably never saw a lead and collar until he arrived to WCAWG.  He is a bit strong and skittish on the lead, but he is learning!  A harness will be the better way to walk him.  He also loves offlead time – he’s not looking to bolt or hunt or run away he stays nicely in the area and is in tune with his handler and listens to recall. New owners will need to build gradually to offlead walks, making sure there is a strong and definite bond with him before experimenting!

Fergal is gentle and loving and grateful, he is going to make the most wonderful pet, he could live with children 8 plus. He also gets on really well with other dogs, he never annoys them or gets in their face but enjoys their company.  A home with or without another dog would be fine.

It would be preferrable for there to be a secure area in Fergal’s new home for those initial few weeks of bonding and learning. If it is a very rural, safe area we may consider not-fully-enclosed homes, but owners would need to be committed to having him onlead every time he steps out the door into the garden for the first while.
