Boomer

Beautiful Boomer is a 3 year old Cockapoo who is in our care due to insurmountable difficulties in her previous home.  Boomer is very sweet and biddable but due to her history some issues may arise in the home that will take an experienced owner to keep in check.

In her previous home Boomer’s 2 issues were incompatability with other dogs (although those two dogs were her mother and her sister so that is not so unusual) and a ferocious attitude to the male human in the house, she really did not want him in the house!

At our centre she has been walked by male dog-walkers, introduced to male volunteers, cared for by a male kennel-assistant and has never shown this behaviour.  She avoids or ignores initially, but with a hands-off approach she is happy to explore them further and ultimately makes firm friends with them. This wouldn’t be the first time that we haven’t observed a dog’s previous issues in kennels. There is a chance with time in a home controlling behaviours may creep back in, in which case owners should act quickly to overhaul her routine to nip it in the bud.

Boomer shares her kennel with another dog here and takes walks with several dogs. She’s reasonably independent on walks, although as the weeks pass we’ve been happy to see her grow less anxious and is more involved in play and zoomies.  She has shown some jealousy over food / toys with her kennel companion but it never escalates.

When she arrived here she was a very anxious and reluctant to participate.  However, as she observes more dogs and as she is treated the same as everyone else we are finally starting to see a happier, more expressive dog! She LOVES her road walks and is a favourite with the dog-walkers.

To ensure the best success in her next home, we are asking for a home without young children 14+, a secure garden and no other dog or a dog who is fully adult, easy-going and can show her a happy approach to doghood! Boomer is immaculately house-trained.
